Do you live in Houston and want to get away for a vacation with the family but don’t want to drive too much? I’ve got you covered with some great family getaways from Houston. We’re focusing on places with plenty of water activities because, let’s face it, when planning a Texas vacation with kids, you can’t go wrong with waterslides and splash zones! Here are some of our favorite family getaways that are under three hours from Houston.
Family Getaways From Houston
Camp Fimfo
Camp Fimfo in Waco is three hours from Houston, making it the furthest on our list, but so worth it. Here, you’ll find a splash zone with multiple slides perfect for younger kids and kids who prefer mildly twisty slides over plunging drops.
In addition to the splash zone, there’s also a pool with basketball hoops and a swim-up bar! There are also tons of on-site activities like mini golf, whiffle ball, tennis, pickle ball, kayaking, and more. Every day there is a schedule of fun activities like arts and crafts, pool games, and more.

Kalahari Resorts
Kalahari in Round Rock is just under three hours from Houston and offers both an indoor and outdoor water park. Waterpark admission is included in your stay when you book a room at the resort. Kalahari has sections for babies, toddlers, little kids, and big kids. In addition to their slides and splash zones, they have a lazy river, a wave pool, and a flow rider.
Inside Kalahari is also Tom Foolerys, which offers a vast array of arcade games, indoor amusement park rides, escape rooms, laser tag, bowling, a zip line, and more! You can read our full review of Kalahari here.
Margaritaville Lake Conroe
In addition to regular rooms, they also have cute little houses for rent.
Margaritaville Lake Conroe is just over an hour north of Houston, making it ideal for a super quick getaway from Houston. Here you’ll find a splash zone, lazy river, two water slides, a pool with a swim-up bar, and an adults-only pool. The resort is located on the lake, so you can also rent boats and enjoy the lake.

Splashway Campgrounds & Waterpark
Splashway offers the full wanter park experience along with multiple ways to stay. Located in Sheridan, TX, it’s just an hour and a half from Houston. Choose from a few different cabin options, or book an RV or tent site.
The water park has dozens of slides of all different thrill levels, a lazy river, a wave pool, little kid area, and a pool to just chill at. There are plenty of places to grab a bite to eat in the water park, and you’re welcome to bring your own food as well.

The Woodlands Resort
The Woodlands Resort is located in The Woodlands, TX, just an hour north of the city. Here you’ll find a huge pool complete with basketball hoops, a volleyball net and a few water slides. There’s also a lazy river that actually has waves, which makes it my favorite lazy river of all time.
In addition to the water activities, the resort offers a game room, fire pits, and outdoor movie nights. For the adults, there’s also a spa and a golf course.
