Buggy Barn Museum Old West Town

Buggy Barn Museum in Blanco, Texas

As the name suggests, the Buggy Barn Museum in Blanco, Texas showcases a collection of buggies from throughout history. Room after room awaits, filled with over 200 buggies – royal buggies, livery buggies, jail buggies, and pretty much every kind of buggy or wagon imaginable.

The level of attention and detail that went into creating the Buggy Barn Museum is obvious from the minute you walk in. Each buggy has a detailed description next to it, so you can read about the dates this style was in use, and what it was used for! I never knew there were so many different types of buggies, but I guess that’s what our descendants will say when they visit an old ‘car museum’ in another hundred years or so, right?

Once you’ve had your fill of buggies, you can move outdoors to explore a detailed replica old west town. Step into the barber shop/dentist office, or sit at the bar in the saloon. Shops line the ‘road’, including a sheriff’s office, blacksmith, general store, bathhouse, and more.

Every building you can enter has been painstakingly rendered in the utmost detail. We encountered a man (ok a dummy) getting a tooth extracted at the dentist (which is also the barber!), old-fashioned sewing machines in the general store, and real bottles and glasses at the saloon.

Endless photo ops await in this little town. In fact, Buggy Barn Museum’s old west town is often used as a photo or movie shoot location!

Outside the gift shop, you’ll find one more surprise – a buffalo just hanging out by the front gate. The buffalo was rescued by the owner and now has a permanent home at the museum. Our kids couldn’t believe they were seeing a real live buffalo!
