If you’re heading north from Houston, take the opportunity to stop by the Sam Houston Statue in Huntsville, if for no other reason than to see one of the tallest statues you may ever see. Fun fact, it’s the world’s tallest statue of an American hero.
The Sam Houston Statue stands 67 feet tall, on a 10 foot base. Landscape view isn’t going to cut it for pictures of this thing.
It was created by artist David Adickes, who was born and schooled in Huntsville. The project took almost two years to complete. The statue can be seen for six miles along the highway, but I’d advise taking the exit to view it up close, rather than risk an accident.
